Shockwave therapy applied to the foot

Milwaukee Foot & Ankle Specialists

Advanced Treatments.Proven Technology. Better Outcomes.

Advanced technology is most valuable when it is paired with the right diagnosis and sound clinical judgment. At Milwaukee Foot & Ankle Specialists, we incorporate modern diagnostic and therapeutic technologies into individualized, evidence-informed treatment plans. Our goal is to expand non-surgical options, improve diagnostic precision, address the source of pain when possible, and help patients return to activity safely.

  • TargetedTreat the source of your pain
  • Non-SurgicalMinimally invasive therapies
  • Evidence-BasedBacked by clinical research
  • Safe & EffectiveProven technology you can trust

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)

Non-invasive acoustic-wave treatment for selected chronic musculoskeletal conditions.

Milwaukee Foot & Ankle Specialists uses STORZ MEDICAL shockwave technology supported in the United States by CuraMedix. STORZ has developed medical shockwave systems since 1987 and reports more than 100,000 systems installed across more than 130 countries.

In foot and ankle care, shockwave therapy may be considered for selected chronic tendon and soft-tissue disorders, including plantar heel pain and Achilles tendinopathy. Focused and radial technologies allow energy to be delivered according to the tissue and condition being treated. ESWT is performed without an incision and is commonly incorporated into a broader rehabilitation plan rather than used as a stand-alone solution.

EMTT applicator over the ankle02

Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT)

High-energy magnetic-pulse technology designed for non-invasive musculoskeletal treatment.

EMTT uses rapidly alternating, high-energy magnetic pulses that induce electrical currents within tissue. We use STORZ MEDICAL MAGNETOLITH technology, which differs from conventional low-intensity magnetic-field or PEMF devices in its high oscillation frequency and field characteristics.

STORZ describes EMTT as a non-invasive outpatient technology with deep penetration and high patient comfort, and it can be combined with shockwave therapy in selected treatment plans. In the United States, the device’s labeled indications should guide patient-facing claims; our physicians determine whether EMTT is appropriate after an individualized evaluation.

Regenerative Medicine

Biologic and tissue-support strategies considered within a comprehensive treatment plan.

Regenerative medicine is an umbrella term for therapies intended to support tissue repair or restore the local tissue environment. In foot and ankle care, these approaches may include selected biologic or tissue-based products when clinically and legally appropriate.

We take a conservative, evidence-informed approach: the specific product, regulatory classification, available human evidence, alternatives, risks, and realistic expectations are reviewed before treatment. Regenerative therapies should not be presented as guaranteed cures or substitutes for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate mechanical treatment. We offer regenerative options in the form of amnion injections as well as peptide supplementation therapy.

Diagnostic ultrasound exam of the foot04

Diagnostic Ultrasound

Real-time, point-of-care imaging for dynamic evaluation and image-guided procedures.

Musculoskeletal ultrasound allows our physicians to evaluate many tendons, ligaments, soft tissues, joints, fluid collections, and superficial structures in real time. Unlike a static image, ultrasound can also be used dynamically while a structure moves.

When appropriate, it can improve procedural precision by allowing the physician to visualize the target during aspiration or injection. Ultrasound complements—not replaces—X-ray, MRI, or CT when those studies are better suited to the clinical question.

REMY Class IV laser unit and handpiece05

Class IV Pain Laser — REMY

Non-invasive laser therapy used within the device’s cleared indications for temporary pain relief and other podiatric applications.

We use the REMY Class IV Laser as one option in selected treatment plans. REMY laser devices are intended to provide topical heating for temporary relief of minor muscle and joint pain and stiffness, minor arthritis pain and muscle spasm, while temporarily increasing local circulation and relaxing muscle.

The 980-nm REMY platform also has podiatric indications involving certain soft-tissue procedures and temporary increase of clear nail in patients with onychomycosis. Treatment selection depends on the diagnosis; laser therapy is not a replacement for correcting an underlying structural or mechanical problem when one is present.

Stem Cell Injections

Amnion-derived injections considered within a comprehensive regenerative treatment plan.

As part of our regenerative medicine options, we offer amnion-derived injections using DPMx products. These tissue-based products are intended to support the local healing environment in selected chronic tendon, ligament, and soft-tissue conditions.

As with every regenerative therapy, we review the specific product, its regulatory classification, the available evidence, alternatives, risks, and realistic expectations with you before treatment. Injections are typically combined with appropriate mechanical and rehabilitative care rather than used on their own.

Injection into the plantar fat pad of the heel07

Fat Pad Restoration — LipoSana

Adipose-tissue allograft intended to supplement or replace deficient cushioning tissue.

Loss of the natural plantar fat pad can make standing and walking painful by reducing cushioning beneath the heel or metatarsal heads. LipoSana is a human adipose tissue allograft marketed to replace or supplement injured or deficient adipose tissue and provide cushioning in areas of fat-pad loss.

Early published clinical work on human adipose tissue allograft for pedal fat-pad restoration is emerging, but patient selection and expectations remain important. Evaluation should also address the mechanical cause of overload and whether footwear, orthotics, offloading or other treatments are appropriate.

Peptide vial and syringe08

Peptides (BPC-157)

Peptide supplementation therapy offered as part of selected regenerative treatment plans.

Peptide supplementation is one of the regenerative options we may discuss for selected patients. We use Synapep peptide products, including BPC-157, which is being studied for a possible role in tendon, ligament, muscle, and nerve healing.

Much of the current research is preclinical, so peptide therapy is offered only after an individualized evaluation, with a clear discussion of the product’s regulatory status, the current evidence, alternatives, and realistic expectations. It is not a substitute for an accurate diagnosis or appropriate mechanical treatment.

Illustration of a peripheral nerve stimulator near the ankle09

Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS)

Targeted neuromodulation for appropriately selected chronic peripheral nerve pain.

Peripheral nerve stimulation delivers electrical stimulation near a targeted peripheral nerve to modify pain signaling. Curonix’s Freedom PNS System is indicated for adults with severe, intractable chronic pain of peripheral nerve origin and uses an implanted neurostimulator powered by an external rechargeable transmitter.

Bioventus offers the StimRouter PNS platform for chronic peripheral nerve pain and a temporary StimTrial system to help assess candidacy. PNS may be considered for selected patients with persistent peripheral nerve pain after appropriate diagnostic evaluation and when more conservative treatment has not provided adequate relief.

Every patient is unique. We will determine which advanced treatment option is right for you based on your diagnosis, goals, and individual needs.
